"A Charged Place" Powerline-circle |
A charged place for the Art road
(Konstvägen) in
Lappland. Mikael Richter Once upon a time there was a man who left his hometown for another town far away. Although he longed for his loved one with all his heart, he indulged in taking an extra turn at the roundabouts on his way there. |
||
The work of art consists of seven power-line pylons placed in a circle with a diameter of 60 metres. A 40 kV powerline is led in a circle and the current is allowed to take an extra turn before in continues south at a higher level. | ||
It should be possible to recreate
the concept of a work of art in the imagination of
somebody who has heard about it but has never actually
seen it. The current that passes through my circle is
connected to the grid in the rest of Sweden and also in
the rest of Europe. This means that you can get current
that has made the loop anywhere - even from your own
socket. The sculpture is made only of existing and tested standard materials and is dimensioned according to present norms. The septangle as a form is produced by the fact that I have followed the smallest permissible angle for bending a cable of these dimensions, 157 mm 40kV,. The height and the spacing is determined by the smallest dimensions allowed. Connection to the power-line circuit with detonation breakers gave an inauguration with six bangs - two for each phase. |
